Standing Up for Rental Reforms and Housing Justice

Metro Assist Joins Forces for a Fairer Future

Metro Assist’s Southern Sydney Tenants Advice & Advocacy Service (SSTAAS) proudly participated in the Federal Pre-Election Assembly hosted by Sydney Alliance in Westmead, NSW. This important event brought together community organisations, faith groups, and local leaders to speak directly with federal decision-makers about urgent issues—most importantly, rental reforms, housing affordability, and climate justice.

Why Rental Reforms Matter Now

As housing pressures continue to affect communities—especially migrants and vulnerable renters—rental reforms are more important than ever. They ensure:

  • Greater protection from unfair evictions
  • More affordable and secure tenancies
  • Investment in social and public housing
  • A stronger voice for renters in shaping policy

With the upcoming Federal election, this Assembly provided a timely platform to amplify these concerns.

Building Power Through Partnership

The event was a key opportunity to hold elected officials accountable while showcasing the strength of civil society. Organisations like Metro Assist play a critical role in shaping better housing policy by:

  • Supporting communities to understand their rights
  • Engaging in political advocacy
  • Collaborating with partners to push for meaningful reform

Our Ongoing Commitment to Housing Justice

Metro Assist has a proud record of advocacy, including recent wins such as:

  • Securing rental reforms during the NSW State election
  • Increased social housing investment

We remain committed to creating affordable homes, strong communities, and inclusive cities where all people—especially those from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds—can thrive.

Together, we’re working for a fairer, safer housing future for all.
