International Women’s Day Campaign: Celebrating Strength, Diversity & Inclusion

Honouring Women and Driving Change at Metro Assist

As International Women’s Day 2025 approached, Metro Assist launched a week-long celebration showcasing reflections from our inspiring team members. Through personal stories and powerful messages, our staff highlighted why this day matters and how we can all #AccelerateAction toward gender equality, diversity, and inclusion.

CEO Nina Shahi: Championing Equality from the Top

“International Women’s Day is a powerful reminder that while progress has been made, gender inequality continues to permeate our families and society… Through our programs and advocacy, we work alongside women and communities from diverse backgrounds, committed to breaking down barriers and creating an environment where women can assert their equal rights.” — Nina Shahi, CEO, Metro Assist

Staff Voices: A Week of Reflections

As someone who works with CALD women, survivors of domestic violence, and new migrants, International Women’s Day hits differently!

It’s not just about roses and speeches—it’s about the woman who’s been through so many challenges but STILL standing! The one who’s rebuilding her life, finding her voice, and reclaiming her power in a world that has tried to hold her back with countless inequities

To every woman I work with: You are fierce! You are unstoppable! And no matter the odds, YOU keep rising!

Let’s remember, it’s not just today we celebrate these SHeroes—it’s every day. Let’s laugh, love, and lift each other up! Because together, we change the world.

Jasmine Mguizra – Team Leader, Settlement Programs

Women deserve not only respect but also equal rights, ensuring they stand on equal footing with all genders in society, with the same opportunities to thrive and lead.

I am the SETS Domestic & Family Violence Specialist at Metro Assist. I believe we should not confine women to domestic roles, limiting them to childcare and household chores. Instead, we must provide them with a platform for fair competition, encouraging their active participation in the workforce and integration into society. This way, they can independently take control of their lives, fully utilise their wisdom and coordination skills, and contribute their unique strengths to societal development. The full participation of women is not only a reflection of gender equality but also a vital driving force for social progress.

Rachael Zhou – DFV Specialist

While I’m a student on placement at Metro Assist, I’ve had the chance to meet women who show incredible strength in the face of adversity. They continue to move on with love, hope, and determination in spite of the obstacles they face.

International Women’s Day, in my opinion, is all about recognising, honouring, and celebrating all women with a particular appreciation for those who face ongoing adversity. Yet, continue to shine their light, not only on the path they walk, but also, on those who walk beside them.

Rima Ayoub – Placement Student

International Women’s Day is a time to celebrate the strength, resilience, and achievements of women everywhere. As women, we face barriers—big and small—that make it more difficult to reach our goals. That’s why, for me, this day is about lifting each other up with kindness, understanding, and support.

When we build each other up to succeed we create a ripple effect that empowers our daughters, our women co-workers, and female representatives in our community. I am lucky to be surrounded by amazing women in my work and private life and I commit to supporting, advocating for, and celebrating the incredible women around me. Because when women rise, we all rise.

Alissa – Marketing & Communications

Happy International Women’s Day! 💖

Throughout the week, Metro Assist staff shared meaningful reflections about the importance of gender equality and empowering women from all walks of life. We remain deeply committed to creating a future where women from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds have equal opportunities, safety, and the ability to lead.

Let’s celebrate the resilience, brilliance, and power of women—today and every day.
